Some Parrots Can Be A Real Challenge

First time parrot owners should be aware that some species are a real challenge.

Although cockatoos, macaws and amazons are great parrots, they are some of the most challenging of all the parrot species.

Macaw birds are not little unless you get one of the mini macaw species.

Macaws can be noisy birds, and even the mini macaws can be loud.

Without enough attention these birds will turn into terrors. They will bite, scream and make your life miserable.

It's rare, but if a macaw decides to bite you hard it has the potential to break a finger.

Luckily with the proper training they don't bite, but be watchful of any macaw that you don't know.

Macaws may not be ideal for everyone, but they are fantastic pets in the hands of someone who is willing to spend the time and energy to tame and train one.

Cockatoo birds are famous for how affectionate and cuddly they are, but they demand an extreme amount of attention.

If you aren't prepared to spend most of your day with your parrot, cockatoos aren't for you. Leaving a cockatoo alone in it's cage all day is a sure way to end up with a neurotic bird complete with feather pucking and screaming.

Trust me when I say you don't want a screaming cockatoo on your hands. They can be heard from blocks away. Imagine what it will be like to be in the same room as one.

As long as you understand that you will have to spend a great deal of time playing with your parrot, a cockatoo will become a devote and affectionate parrot.

Amazon birds don't need as much attention as the other two because they are more independent and can entertain themselves for a good part of the day. Their downside is that as they reach maturity they can get aggressive.

A first time parrot owner may find that they are too aggressive to to handle.

As with the other two parrots, if they aren't properly trained they can be loud and noisy.
