Some Parrots Can Be A Real Challenge

If the idea of owning a cockatoo appeals to you, but you don't have the space for something the size of a Moluccan or Umbrella cockatoo, the Goffin cockatoo might be what you are looking for.

They are close to the cockatiel birds in length and slight heavier.

A Goffin cockatoo has an overall white body with pink between the eyes and beak as well as under the crest. There is yellow under the eye coverlet, tail and wing feathers.

The crest that cockatoos raise when they are excited or frightened is smaller in proportion to it's body size than it is on the other cockatoos.

A Goffin cockatoo can make a lot of noise for a bird of it's size. Sure the bigger cockatoos are louder, but these little parrots can scream. They seem to be the noisiest in the early morning or evening.

Plenty of attention and lots of new and interesting toys are important to keep this highly active parrot stimulated and entertained.

Goffin cockatoos need plenty of room to explore and play. The cage you get for it should be as large as possible, and certainly bigger than what you would expect a parrot this size to need

Goffin cockatoos are better known for their ability do learn tricks and solve puzzles than for their ability to talk, but some do develop a large vocabulary.

Their ability to solve puzzles makes it easy for them to figure out how to open a simple cage door. You want a cage that has a latch they can't get at from the inside.

If you are looking for a playful, loyal and affectionate pet parrot a Goffin cockatoo is a good choice as long as you are aware of the fact that they need quite a bit of attention.
